Newport Festivals Foundation Announces Donation to LA’s The Harmony Project on Behalf of Lucius

On behalf of 2018 Newport Folk Festival performer Lucius, Newport Festivals Foundation has donated $5,000 to the Harmony Project – a nonprofit that provides free music instruction and instruments to youth in underserved areas of LA. The funds will be used to underwrite expenses for Harmony Project’s Leimert Park vocal/choir program – specifically the teacher’s salary and music supplies (purchasing music, music stands, etc). The choir program engages students in a collaborative choir setting, and incorporates spoken word, poetry, and songwriting into the curriculum.

Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute Announces 2018-2019 Grant Recipients for PlayUSA

Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI) today announced the 2018-2019 grant recipients for PlayUSA, a program that supports a wide range of instrumental music education projects across the United States, all specifically designed to reach low-income and underserved students on a local level. For its fourth year, Carnegie Hall has selected 15 organizations, including 2 new partners, Buffalo String Works and MYCincinnati, for a total of $505,000 in grants. In addition to financial support, the grantees join a nationwide network of innovative organizations committed to providing transformative music education opportunities for youth across the country.

This year’s Tony Awards nominations have just been announced by Katharine McPhee and Leslie Odom Jr. , celebrating the best of the 2017-18 theatre season. The 2018 Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on Sunday, June 10th on CBS. This season featured 33 productions, including 20 plays and 10 musicals and 3 special performances.
