This Late Northampton County Resident Is Receiving the Nation’s Highest Jazz Honor

One year after his death at age 94, the federal government is paying its respects to legendary Northampton County resident Bob Dorough.

The Library of Congress on March 20 announced the inclusion of “Schoolhouse Rock! The Box Set” from 1996 in the 2018 class of its National Recording Registry. Dorough composed the songs set to animation that became a staple of the ABC network’s children’s programming in the 1970s and ’80s. Dorough’s work is included in the class of 2018 alongside 24 titles like Neil Diamond’s 1969 Sweet Caroline, Curtis Mayfield’s 1972 Superfly, the 1959 single Long Black Veil from Lefty Frizell and music from Cyndi Lauper, Jay-Z and N.W.A.
