Wynn-Anne Rossi is known to the music world as a talented pianist, dynamic composer, and dedicated music educator. Throughout her life, she has combined her inquisitive nature with a strong work ethic to build an impressive musical career and body of work. Sharing her talents with the world is very important to Ms. Rossi, and we in the music world are very happy she has.
Wynn-Anne Rossi is particularly passionate about teaching composition to young musicians. She feels that one of her greatest talents is the ability to simplify complex ideas to a single “grain,” thus allowing any level learner to understand them. This was the inspiration behind the “Counterpoints” in her Creative Composition Toolbox series. Rossi believes that anyone can learn to write music if given the freedom to find their own voice. Judging by the success of the Toolbox series, many other teachers and students agree with her.
That idea of giving children a voice through music is central to Wynn-Anne Rossi’s educational philosophy. Just as children master a language by speaking, reading and writing it, Rossi believes that just listening to or playing music is not enough. Young musicians need to create their own music to deepen their understanding of the art. With her unique approach, Rossi is able to foster the natural creativity of young musicians and use it to help them learn by encouraging them to try any type of music that strikes them.
It was this openness to all music that led Rossi to create her Latin music series, Musica Latina. After writing a piece called Brazilian Nights, Rossi was contacted by E. L. Lancaster from Alfred Music Publishing who asked her to create a series of books geared toward making Latin music accessible for musicians at all levels. Rossi accepted the task and threw her full effort into learning about Latin music, dance, and culture wherever she could. Using her impressive ability to simplify complex musical themes, she was able to successfully create a series of musical books that captures the spirit and flavor of Latin music in a manner that even beginning musicians can play and understand.
