At J.W. Pepper, we’re dedicated to elevating the voices of today’s creators, and we are proud to support the vibrant community of independent composers who publish with My Score. Through their catalogs on the platform, creators can share their original music with performers and educators around the world. Every month, we spotlight composers whose artistry represents the heart of this community.
This February, we’re honored to feature Ricardo Stevens as our Composer of the Month. Along with Ricardo, we’re showcasing nine other composers whose profiles reveal meaningful stories about their musical journeys, their craft, and the works they’ve recently added to My Score.

Ricardo Stevens
Concert Band
Ricardo Stevens Sr. (b. 1983) was raised in Woodville, California. He was captivated by renowned band director Mr. Glen Gilden, who prompted his musical education in the fourth grade. He developed his passion for music under the careful guidance of Mr. Dale Anderson in Porterville, California. Mr. Anderson taught Ricardo a variety of musical styles over the course of four years. He graduated from Monache High School in 2001. He pursued music education at California State University, Fresno, where he studied under Dr. Lawrence P. Sutherland, Dr. Gary P. Gilroy, and advanced trumpet with Dr. Michael Caldwell.
Ricardo oversees his own music publishing company, Ricardo Stevens Music, LLC. His creative compositions and arrangements for the music education market specifically target small rural community schools at the early middle school level.
