Music is a passion for singers of all ages, and for many, performing in a choir is one of their greatest joys in life. But when a singer’s eyesight begins to deteriorate, performance can become difficult. Whether it is from age, illness, or another cause, diminished eyesight can become a major obstacle to performing the music you love.
Because standard octavos can be difficult to read for singers who struggle to see smaller type, Pepper has created Large Print Editions for many of your favorite pieces. These editions are exactly the same music as the standard-size originals – they’re just bigger! Each page image – not just the lyrics, but the staves, the notes, everything – is enlarged and printed on 9″ × 12″ paper. That means the pagination, measure numbers, and page turns stay the same.
Large Print Editions also work great for your accompanists and conductor. Standard octavos can be harder to follow when read from a stand, because they are usually meant to be held. Large print sheet music can be seen from farther away, so reading the music is no problem at all.
You can easily order Large Print Editions on our site alongside traditional octavos, so there’s no need to do multiple searches. All you have to do is select how many of each edition you want. Plus, we have folders and file-finder boxes that accommodate the larger editions. You can get everything from J.W. Pepper.
We know that at times there are things that get between you and the music you love, but at Pepper, we want to make sure nothing stands in your way. If we can help you continue to perform the music you love, we will. So enjoy our new Large Print Editions, and let nothing stop you from singing!
Can you get e-print music formatted in large print versions as well?
Hi Bruce, I’m sorry but at this point you are not able to get large print editions as ePrints. It is something we are considering for future development. Thank you for your comment.
WOW!!! I totally love the idea of large print music!!! I wish it were an option for Orchestra music as well. I had a student who was almost legally blind and I enlarged everything we played for her, just to give her a fighting chance to see it. When she moved from our elementary Orchestra program, where we perform maybe 5-6 pieces a year, to Middle School, where we read that many a month, I breathed a secret sigh of relief that she chose not to continue violin, since it was very time-consuming for me, plus the result looked patched together and unprofessional. Had enlarged Orchestra parts been available, I would have fought very hard to keep her playing, since she had a lot of talent, and really loved to play.
Bravo to you for bringing this need to light, and for offering it to Choruses everywhere, and I truly hope you can offer it soon for Orchestra music as well!!
Thank you so much for your comment. We’re truly happy that we’re able to provide solutions to help people continue to make music.
ARE YOU going to offer this service for instrumental parts of a piece? I too have had to hand copy band parts for a visually impaired student. Could not afford the tablet plus programs to enlarge her music. Plus there is the need for reverse printing…… white notes on black background….. the specialist found this was much easier on her eyes.
Hi Kayla, thank you for you comment. Plans for large print editions for instrumental music are under discussion. I’ve passed along your comment about reverse printing to my colleagues who are working on the large print edition planning.
Great idea. There are older musicians who sometimes need a larger edition. You could check with New Horizons International Bands to see if this is a big enough need to meet.
