Reflect and Restore

Reflect and Restore

Busy busy busy busy… stop, catch breath… busy busy busy…

The rhythm of life in music ministry can feel like it runs to the soundtrack of “Pick a Little, Talk a Little” from the Music Man! Church music ministry has this lovely yet demanding rhythmic chug of services, rehearsals, seasons, meetings, and… and… and…

Yet you are made for more than perpetual frenetic rhythm. You are a beautiful, beloved soul. Can you see it in yourself? Have you heard words of love spoken to you from the Lord lately? Today? Do you see the abundant gifts in your life?

Someone wise once told me that you can’t fill a glass that’s already full. If you try, everything just spills all over the place and makes a mess. The full glass is my visual cue to make time, to create space. How else can I give and hear words of love? How else can I be thankful for the gifts I easily recognize? How else can I have revealed to me the gifts that may at first be disguised as burdens? Prayer is a time of renewal.

I asked some friends in music ministry to share what renewal means to them:

“Take a step back and breathe – deepen your personal relationship with God through prayer and meditation.”

“Remembering why I’m doing what I do, finding ways to fill the well so I can draw from it.”

“Taking time to reflect on what was successful during the year.”

“Creating mini moments by reading the lyrics as a prayer before we start the music.”

However and wherever you spend these warm summer days, we wish you peace and renewal. Empty your glass a bit, let some to-dos go undone. Restore yourself to a place where there is room to be filled by the Lord. The Lord is waiting for you. God Bless.
